Hi, I’m Corey and I will be your Contrologist…
Hello, we finally meet.
My name is Corey. I am a Western Australian native, hailing from a special little placed called Esperance. If you had told me 5 years ago that I would be setting up home and a beautiful home Pilates studio in Mullumbimby, I would have scoffed at you and called you mad. But here I am! Calling Mullumbimby home, because it’s a special place, with a unique spirit which suits my soul, very muchly.
When I was 28, my friend asked me to attend a pilates mat class with her, telling me “I would love it”. I hadn’t found my groove with any exercise since blowing out my knee in my early 20’s due to netball and the level of competition, i was very fortunate, to play at. So off I trotted to my first pilates mat class, and I fell in love with this extremely challenging work, that was really forcing me to focus and concentrate on my muscles. And for someone who was pretty natural at sport and not having to think about how i moved my body, well focus and concentration on performing an exercise was something very new for me. I practiced for 10 years, before making the big, life changing decision to become a Pilates Instructor and as soon as I discovered Cynthia Lochard and the Romana’s Pilates Instructor Training Program - truly respecting and adhering to the true teachings of Joe Pilates, I knew I had found the real deal. I moved from my very beautiful seaside home in Esperance to Perth to commence training under Danielle Katich and Catherine Langford @ Contrology Perth, which then led to completing my training under legend Cynthia Lochard, in Sydney, in which i ended up working for Cynthia and I had a blast whilst I worked there, and learnt SOOOOOOO MUCH from Cynthia, Tamika, Lea, Zanzi, Wardy, Paddy and my special Laura. i am so lucky, privilliged and humbled to have been trained by and worked side by side by the best in the Australian Pilates industry.
Fair to say, Pilates has been my longest commitment to date, who has never let me down but made me incredibly strong. No shit, this exercise system changes your body. And the way you apply your mind to your body also changes everything about what you do and what you think your body is capable of. The human body is incredibly crafted in it’s architectural design. Pilates teaches you how to move your body correctly, from the centre - the Powerhouse, as it was affectionately termed by Joe Pilates. You create efficiency with the way you move in everything you do and create incredible strength and an added bonus, is that you start to stand as we should - awesome posture! and then your ailments seem to not be as prominent that they once were, you free up areas of your body where you hold your stress or your trauma. Pilates teaches your mind all about your incredible body. Win, Win.
And it takes commitment. Pilates is a discipline. And its soooo worth it.
I love teaching Pilates, but i am a fun, passionate instructor who has taught bodies of all types, situations, scenarios…..athletes to 87 year olds and everything in between. Sporting Injuries, healthy bodies, joint replacement, Parkinson’s Disease, trauma victims and i feel that i have achieved excellent results physically but also seeing emotional well being improve too. So come and hang out with me. I have been told that i have sunny disposition about me and i listen to cool music and in general, I have a pretty good grasp on life.
